We had a great time with our wonderful friends, now living just 5 hours away from us...
The Mitchell's came for Thanksgiving and it was one of some many joyful moments we have had with them in the past 7 years...
Gustavo and his team from Fulton Sunshine Academy worked beautifully together in their competition early in December. They have moved forward and will be competing again in the sub-regional level in January.
Here is a video preview of the FSA Lego League Team in all their greatness ;-)
First movie directed by Bernardo... And he did a great job! See for yourselves...
We visited Callaway Gardens during the Labor Day Weekend. It was wonderful, and certainly a place we will return to. For sure we will be back in the spring to see the azalea's in bloom.
We realized that unfortunately the movie on YouTube (below) came out silent, because the music selected by Bernardo generated copyright issues. So, to see the video with the musical part, you need to go here:http://gallery.me.com/waynemoreira/100335.
Back to Rio: some more of our beautiful home town. Here is a visit to the Botanical Gardens, which is also the name for the neighborhood of my childhood. This visit was done during the last weekend of the children's vacation in Brazil. (I was already back home!). They had a chance to play with Arthur and 'Juju', son and daughter of Lulu and Venicio (Bernardo's godparents).
As part of the visit to the Center-west of Brazil, we definitely had to visit the nation's capital, which this years completes 50 years old! Brasilia was a contrast to 4 days spent in Pirenopolis, but a very interesting visit.
As promised, more videos from our wonderful trip to Brazil in July. In this post, first two days of our stay in Pirenopolis, GO. A historical city close to Brasilia, in the middle of the beautiful Brazilian 'Cerrado' (somewhat similar to a savanna). Beautiful water fall and lots of trails.
As most of you know, we were in Brazil during the month of July. We had a wonderful time. Wayne has captured so much, and we will be slowly showing it all to you. Here is a glimpse of what winter in Rio can be like... Yes, be jealous!
We were for three days in the island, driving back home early on 6/9. It was a great getaway, and we especially enjoyed the 8.5 mile bike ride around the entire island. Just gorgeous!
My presentation took place in the early morning of 6/8, and if you have any patience for that here are the snippets. (But, definitely it is not worth any of your 10 minutes today!)
We had been there a year ago, but for those who live in Atlanta, Savannah is always a great getaway. The historical sites, the live oak trees with the Spanish moss, the artsy stores, the pecans and the fudge... It is all very pleasant. And then there is Tybee Island, with the warm waters, the dolphins around and a great jet skiing.
Note #1 to ourselves: the trip on the ferry is not worth the money.
Note #2 to ourselves: need to come back to Tybee Island for more jet skiing with the dolphins.
The temperature was mild and the flowers all in bloom. We walked up and down several trails, with wonderful trees and waterfalls. That weekend we also had the chance to visit Blue Ridge's Arts Festival, which was a plus.
There is still a lot to do in that area, and we will definitely be back.
Gustavo's school held their Spring big event with a musical called "On the Radio", and it was a huge success. Ms. Lundy deserves big kudos, because the kids really did a great job!
For us obviously, Gustavo was the cutest ever... Here we have a small clip from the full musical, but we will bring other pieces of play later.
While the snow was coming down in DC and then Atlanta, Christine and I were at work in San Juan. I know what you are all thinking, but we were working, and the pictures below are the total of the few hours on Tuesday, February 9th and then some others before catching the plane on our way back. It is the truth!
More snow in Atlanta... when we moved down here they said we would see snow maybe every 10 years or so. well, this is our third winter here, and we have had snow in every single one of them. This time it actually came down harder. We get enough to make everything look real pretty and melts fast enough to avoid the trouble. This is a video from the last snow fall on February 12, 2010.
Nesse video aqui o Cherry Blosson em DC em torno do Basin... Vovo' vistando, e o Be correndo. Isso deve ter sido ainda em 2001, porque o Guga nem anda direito ainda... Muito fofinho...
Ainda revirando o bau, encontramos dois videozinhos do Be.
Bernado just got glasses... he is nearsided, but just for a tiny bit. We got him a frameless pair and I think he looks very handsome, but I'm biased as you all know ;-)
Dessa vez, however, the second song was HIS choice, from the film "Spirited Away". The teacher was not that happy about the choice, because it was not a 'real' classical piece... But, hey, one needs to have some pleasure. I think he did a wonderful job!
